FAQs

BILLING + INSURANCE

  • Fees differ depending on the type of psychological service provided. Please feel free to contact us for a consultation and detailed pricing information.

  • Such a great question! There are many factors that go into a therapist’s rate, these include:

    • Years of education, training and experience

    • Time spent preparing for session(s), time in session(s), and documentation after session(s)

    • Location

Rest assured we hear you on the cost and our rates are on par with the current market.

  • Dr. Faith Schombs is currently only in-network with Aetna (via Headway). If you have a different insurance, you can use your out-of-network benefits to see Dr. Faith Schombs. In our experience, reimbursement rates are generally between 60-80% of the session cost which can result in the same price as your copay or coinsurance. Feel free to ask us any questions if you need help navigating the complicated world of insurance.

  • Similar to most providers in New York, we are not in-network with a lot of insurances. Here are some reasons why:

    • Being in-network limits patients in terms of the number of sessions allowed.

    • Being in-network restricts patients on what can be considered “covered” in sessions - both in terms of issues and therapeutic approaches.

    • Insurance companies require a specific diagnosis that goes into a client’s permanent medical record.

    • Insurance companies require a lot of information about you and your session in order to approve a claim.

    • Ultimately we want you to be entirely in charge of your decisions and care!

  • Sessions must be cancelled 48 hours in advance or will be billed at the full session rate.

PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS

  • Therapy can be helpful for anyone who wants to learn, grow, cope, and/or change.

    • You would like to gain insight into yourself.

    • You want to learn evidence-based strategies to cope with your current issues.

    • You are open to being gently challenged in sessions.

We may not be a good fit if:

    • You are looking for a therapist with consistent after business hours availability/support.

    • You are looking for a therapist that can see you more than twice a week.

    • You are actively experiencing the following: psychosis, mania, self-harm, suicidal ideation, eating disorder, and/or heavy substance use.

  • Based on research, weekly therapy is recommended to start. Depending on your progress, needs, and goals, therapy can be reduced to once every two weeks.

  • Some clients are in therapy for a few months, others choose to stay in therapy long-term. It depends on your needs and goals.

  • Yes! Research has shown that seeing a therapist virtually is just as effective as in-person sessions.
